The Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) and Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) released a Joint Statement regarding the IV Fluid Shortage.
On August 26, ANZCA President Professor David Story and ASA President Dr. Mark Sinclair met with the National Response Group to discuss concerns about potential shortages of intravenous (IV) crystalloid solutions in Australia. While availability varies by region, no critical shortages have been identified, and widespread cancellations of elective procedures have been avoided. The National Response Group is working to increase supply, with expectations that it will outpace demand over the next six months.
